How To Make A Rosary

Supplies You Will Need

  • Twine (size #7-#9)
  • Scissors
  • School Glue
  • Beads (around 6-7 mm diameter)
  • Spacer Beads (around 2-3 mm diameter)
  • Cord Rosary Knotting Tool
  • Rosary Centerpieces
  • Crucifixes
  • Miraculous Medals

Step 1

Cut two pieces of twine, one approximately 36-48 inches long and the other 12-18 inches long. Thread a centerpiece and a miraculous medal through the end of the longer piece of twine.

Step 2

Using the cord knotting tool, place the twine in the groove with the medal and centerpiece at the end of the tool as shown.

Step 3

With the short end of the twine still in the groove, wind the longer portion of the twine clockwise over the grooved portion of the tool.

Step 4

Wind the twine around the tube four times. Be sure that the twine passes over the tube with each loop behind the last one, so that each loop is closer to the centerpiece and medal.

Step 5

Slide the end of the long cord used for winding underneath all the loops on the tube along the groove in the direction as shown in the photo.

Step 6

Pull the long end of the twine tight, then slip the knot off of the tool.

Step 7

Continue pulling the twine so that it forms a tight knot as shown.

Step 8

Using the scissors, trim the short end of the twine close to the knot.

Step 9

Put 10 beads on the cord for the first decade.

Step 10

Using small spacer beads, separate the Our Father bead from the 10 Hail Mary beads. Continue steps 9 through 10 until you have 5 sets of 10 Hail Mary beads with 4 Our Father beads separating the 10 decades. As an alternative to spacer beads, you may separate the Our Father beads from the Hail Mary beads using the knot tecnique shown in steps 1 through 7.

Step 11

Repeat steps 1 through 7 to make a knot on the centerpiece hole closest to your original knot. The rosary should now look like this.

Step 12

Tie a knot in the remaining hole of the centerpiece, then thread an Our Father bead with spacer beads on either side, three Hail Mary beads, and another Our Father bead separated by spacers. As an alternative to spacers, knots may be used. Tie a knot to the Crucifix to complete the Rosary.

Step 13

The completed Rosary should now look like this.

Step 14

Using the school glue, glue each knot so that the glue is covering the entire surface. Let dry. This is important to keep the knots from coming undone over time.
